"It has been my honor and privilege to see the growth of Ms. Salas, both as a scientist and as a committed citizen of the department and to her community. From my first time working with her when she an undergraduate and where we went on an adventure with her and other students on a trip to Indonesia, I have been impressed with her work ethic, skill, and ability to work with others. Seeing her lead her current projects and seeing her grow as a professional is exactly why I decided to become a professor, to see such talented students take flight from humble beginnings. She is a role model of what it means to be a great student, leader, and community leader."
